Our primary audience includes individuals aged 18 and up who appreciate flavorful food, a laid-back yet sophisticated vibe, and the convenience of seamless digital access. The Problem?

Many restaurant menus both digital and print tend to be cluttered, overly wordy, or not optimized for responsive use on different devices. This can make it difficult for users to quickly navigate options, understand dish details, and make confident dining decisions, especially in fast-paced or visually driven environments.

The Goal

To design a digital menu that enhances the overall dining experience by making the decision making process clear, engaging, and intuitive. The menu should be visually appealing, easy to navigate, and accessible to a diverse audience supporting both convenience and delight with every interaction.

Tapping Into the Takeout Mindset: Understanding How Users Navigate Digital Menus

To better understand user behavior and expectations, I conducted interviews with a small group of participants to explore how people interact with and perceive digital restaurant menus. These insights were mapped into empathy diagrams to capture users’ thoughts, feelings, and needs.

One key discovery was that users often view takeout as a convenient, enjoyable alternative to cooking especially when seeking speed and simplicity. However, many found online menus overwhelming, citing excessive text, poor structure, and lack of clarity as common frustrations. These pain points highlighted the need for a digital menu experience that prioritizes clarity, ease of use, and visual balance to support fast, stress-free decision-making.
